Deeply Rooted

Matthew 13:21 CEV “But they don’t have deep roots, and they don’t last very long. As soon as life gets hard or the message gets them in trouble, they give up”

Who do you run to when life gets hard? How do you deal with seemingly turbulent situations? What’s your response to diced life challenging circumstances? Have you considered giving up? Are you deeply rooted or connected to the master of the universe?

Technology has had a massive huge impact on our lives in this generation. Our lifestyles, language, culture at best have been uniquely transformed by these connected global networks. In the midst of these, there’s a void in hearts that crave power above human’s to aid with navigating through technology, life experiences at large.

Have you observed how differently some problems you face now would have been solved 20years ago? Have you noticed how people ramp up their social media to mention current happenings, rant about their anger, talk about where/what’s going on in their lives, etc?

Interestingly, you must have heard that bad/ugly things in your life should not be shared on SM. It’s rather a place to share joy, cruise, and achievements. True is the fact, that that’s a common trend. Worrisome however is how you treat knotty problems. Whom do you run to? What do you do? How does technology support?

In the opening verse was the story of a farmer. He went about planting seeds on different grounds. Important to note were the seeds that fell on stony places and as such wasn’t deeply rooted. When life got hard, they withered away. Learning about Jesus Christ and his message from a Christian home or a Bible-believing church isn’t just sufficient. Doing good, paying alms, trending Christian verses on SM isn’t as well. “They don’t last very long” when the storms of life arise.

There’s a need to start a relationship with the great saviour. It has to begin with you confessing and forsaking all shortcomings and asking Christ in your heart. That’s a start! You need to be deeply rooted in His words. That requires studying, researching and hardwork. Christianity is not a lazy enterprise. It calls for daily scripture studies, praying in the spirit, fellowshipping with God’s people, constantly and consciously living a holy life pleasing to God.

I have discovered that there are many sermons, devotionals, music, podcasts, books, write-ups that create and sustain growth spiritually. But you need to crave growth. You have to go in full-blown search for them. With growth and development comes the tenacity to withstand life’s turbulences

When life scurry moments hit you hard – sudden loss of a loved one, unexpected hurts, failed plans, unemployment, disappointments, fears, and anxieties, or feelings of giving up etc be sure that you have an anchor in Christ.

At such trying times, it’s important to saturate your heart with a lot of gratitude because we have a saviour who shares in our pains. One who understands! He’s not out of touch with reality, He knows about your struggles. He’s never tired of listening to you. He is ready and willing to keep you safe and secure even when SM, technology, and friends aren’t interested in those dark stories. He’d be right by your side ensuring that His purpose is revealed in you but first you must be deeply rooted in Him.

Here’s an opportunity again to review your life, to ask who your anchor is, and to know if you’re deeply rooted in Christ. If you are, stay deeply rooted. If you aren’t, give it a try, you’d be glad you did.
