Proverbs 18:10 AMP “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs to it and is safe and set on high [far above evil]” Have you ever considered deeply what it feels like to be safe? to be set on high? or to be far above evil?
What has been the scariest moment of your life? Who do you run to when your world is crumbling down? What is the first word that comes out of your mouth when in danger? What do you do to get mollified? Which name(s) do you remember in times of trouble?
Well, a songwriter wrote “There’s a name above all others, wonderful to hear, bringing hope and cheer. It’s the lovely name of Jesus. Evermore the same, what a lovely name, the name of Jesus. Reaching higher far, than the brightest star. Sweeter than the songs they sing in heaven. Let the world proclaim, what a lovely name.”
The name of Jesus is the solid rock, refuge, and fortress of every Christian. It’s the name above all others. That name is matchless. It’s inimitable and nonpareil. I’d like to rephrase the lyrics of William Hunter’s, the great physician hymn. Here: That name dispels all guilt and fear. It restores hope to the hopeless. It speaks the drooping heart to cheer! Oh, how my soul delights to hear the charming name of Jesus. Sweetest name on mortal’s tongue. Sweetest carol ever sung. I love the blessed savior’s name. The empathizing Jesus – the name that understands all of mankind’s struggles and needs.
Why is that name so important? In Philippians 2:9 CEV “Then God gave Christ the highest place and honored his name above all others” v10,11 GNT “And so, in honor of the name of Jesus, all beings in heaven, on earth, and in the world below will fall on their knees, and all will openly proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.“
Glory Halleluyah! Amen!
I hear you recite the scripture in Psalm 23 – yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil. I bet you not only fear evil, but you also dread evil. Hey, this is a gentle reminder about that unrivaled name: the sweet precious name of Jesus. Beings and spirits in heaven, on earth, world below, in the waters, in the air bows at the mention of that name. You already know about that? True, but I’m here to remind you that you’ve not plunged into the efficacy of that information.
What are you struggling with? What is the biggest obstacle you’re facing with life? What are the things causing you sleepless nights and heartaches? There’s a name that calms all storms. That speaks “Peace, be still” to every raging sea, and cloudy situation. Are you hurting? Are you grieving? The name Jesus is the balm you need.
Are you confused? Does it feel like your life has come to a halt? Do you feel numb about all that’s going on in your life? Take a pause. You guessed right! Call upon the name of Jesus.
Are you facing temptations? Are there trials hewing you down? Are you at a crossroads? Breathe that holy name in prayer. Are you sick? Do you have any terminal illnesses? Are you feeling drained mentally and physically? The name Jesus is a dial away. He’d step in majestically.
Do you know one of the beautiful things about that name? It has the capacity to turn your night into day, your darkness into light, your sorrows into joy. That name cleanses you first from every immorality, sin, shame, and iniquity. It then gives you a new name – a goodly name. You become a direct heir to the many honours that accompany the name with direct access to the throne of heaven and all its delectables.

I think you’re in search of protection and security in the wrong place. There’s a strong tower that appears pari passu when you mention the name of the LORD. The tower is so strong and mighty, such that no evil comes close to it. The armies and armouries there are incomparable to any nation’s military defense here on earth. The years, wealth, and lozenge of experience of the operators of those towers are unparalleled. They are the armies of the mighty host of Heaven. They have never lost a single battle! Oh! a stalwart tower of refuge indeed. What better place to seek safety but in the name of Jesus!
Evil grieves. Evil frustrates. Evil gives no peace of mind. Evil taunts. Evil unnerves. In fact, Evil is Evil. But you see that special name (the name of Jesus) will set you on high, far above and beyond any evil. If anything, take the name of Jesus with you to every place you go and in everything you think or do. I am certain that the God of all flesh will grant you victories all round (Amen).
God bless you!
