“How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!”
Psalm 139 verse 17
There is something deeply comforting in knowing that you are on the mind of God. Not sometimes. Not when you pray well. Not only when you feel spiritual. Always.
You live in a world where people change their minds, forget promises, and sometimes even forget you. Yet the God who created the heavens and the earth has countless thoughts about you, and scripture calls those thoughts precious. That word is not casual. It speaks of something rare, weighty, costly and carefully kept.
God does not think about you the way people think about you. God does not even think about you the way you think about yourself. His thoughts are higher, deeper and kinder than anything you can imagine.
God thinks good thoughts toward you
Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11 says
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
You may not always know what is happening around you, but God always knows what He is thinking toward you. He is not confused. He is not experimenting with your life. He already knows the thoughts that He thinks toward you.
Notice three things from that verse.
First, His thoughts are personal.
God says, “I know the thoughts that I think toward you.” This is not a general announcement. It is personal. You are not lost in a crowd before Him. Your name, your story, your tears and your desires are known.
Second, His thoughts are good.
He says they are thoughts of peace and not of evil. Even when He corrects you, it is not because He is thinking evil of you, it is because He is thinking of your peace, your wholeness, your future.
Third, His thoughts are purposeful.
He thinks in order “to give you an expected end.” That means there is a destination in His mind when He looks at you. He is not just reacting to your mistakes or your environment. He has an expectation for your life, a destiny that aligns with His will and His glory.
How God’s thoughts differ from human thoughts

Your thoughts are often shaped by:
- what you see right now
- what you have experienced in the past
- what people have said about you
- what you feel in the moment
God’s thoughts are not limited by any of these.
You may look at your life and think, “I have failed.” God can look at the same life and think, “I am just beginning a new work in you.”
You may think, “I do not deserve another chance.” God thinks, “My mercy is new every morning for you.”
You may think, “Nothing good can come out of this situation.” God thinks, “All things work together for good to you, as you love Me and walk in My purpose.”
Your thoughts are often short term. You see today, maybe next week. God sees the entire journey at once. He sees where you started, where you are, and where His grace will carry you. He sees how your pain can become a testimony, how your tears can water the seeds of future joy, how your weakness can become the stage for His strength.
Your thoughts are influenced by your wounds. God’s thoughts are guided by His wisdom and His eternal love.
Your thoughts can be unstable. One moment you are confident, the next moment you are discouraged. God’s thoughts do not swing with your mood. They are steady, settled and sure.
Why His thoughts are so precious?
David did not just say that God’s thoughts are many. He said they are precious. Why are they precious for you?
First, they reveal your true worth.
People may measure your value by your income, position, appearance or background. God measures you by His love, by the price He paid for you in Christ. When you receive His thoughts, you start to see yourself as He sees you, and that breaks the lies of shame and inferiority.
Second, they bring light to your confusion.
When you do not know what to do, God’s thoughts can come through His word, by His Spirit, through godly counsel, and suddenly what seemed dark begins to make sense. His thoughts give you direction, not just information.
Third, they heal your inner battles.
Many times your greatest warfare is not outside, but inside your mind. Negative self talk, fear, regret and anxiety can be loud. When you begin to meditate on what God thinks of you, those inner storms start to calm. His thoughts are like healing oil poured into a restless heart.
Fourth, they reposition your priorities.
When God reveals what He thinks about your life, your calling, your relationships and your time, you begin to drop what does not matter and hold on to what matters to Him. His thoughts reshape your goals so that you live for what has eternal value.
Fifth, they birth transformation.
You are transformed as your mind is renewed. When you replace your old patterns of thinking with the living thoughts of God, your choices change, your habits change, your atmosphere changes. Precious thoughts lead to a precious life.
Yielding to God’s thoughts
God’s thoughts can transform you, but that happens when you yield. His thoughts are available, but they will not force themselves into your mind. You have to choose them.

You yield when you open scripture, not as a religious routine, but as a conversation with the God who is already thinking about you.
You yield when you pray and then listen, allowing His word to correct your fears and adjust your desires.
You yield when you drop your stubborn insistence on your own plan and sincerely say, “Lord, your will is wiser than mine. I choose what you are thinking over what I am feeling.”
You yield when you stop agreeing with every negative label and start agreeing with what God says about you.
Every time you surrender your thoughts to His, something shifts. Anxiety gives way to trust. Confusion gives way to clarity. Hopelessness gives way to expectation. You begin to live with the quiet confidence that the One who thinks about you is also guiding you.
A powerful reminder for your heart
God’s thoughts toward you are not static words on a page. They are living, active and dynamic. He is not a distant observer who thought of you once and moved on. He is a present Father who continues to think, plan, lead and work in your life.
When your season changes, His thoughts are still relevant.
When your location changes, His thoughts still hold.
When your feelings shift, His thoughts remain sure.
Today let this truth settle deeply in you. The God of Psalm 139 has you on His mind. The God of Jeremiah 29 has good thoughts stored up for you. His thoughts are precious, they are many, and they are powerful enough to rewrite your story if you will yield to them.
So when your own thoughts become loud and heavy, pause and whisper in faith:
“Lord, your thoughts toward me are precious. I choose them above my fears. I align my heart with what you are thinking, and I trust you to lead me into the expected end you have prepared for me.”
God is still thinking about you. And His thoughts are working, shaping, correcting, lifting and transforming you even now. If you are yet to surrender your all to the great God, it’s another opportunity to confess and forsake your sins, and let His thoughts permeate your life.
