A song was released in late 2015 by a Nigerian artiste, Sinach, she titled it Waymaker. Since its release, it’s been a wonderful warble in the hears of both the listeners and in the mouth of singers of this melodious tune. For a very long time before now, you mostly hear of international gospel songs whose songs are being remixed or covered.
For the records, In October 2020, “Way Maker” won the Dove Award for Song of the Year at the 51st GMA Dove Awards in the United States. Sinach was the first Nigerian gospel artist to win the award.
The first cover of this song was by the famous Michael W Smith. The three time Grammy award winner said that the inspiration to cover the song came through his daughter, Anne, who described the song as her go-to song. Since then, the song has been covered byore than 20 various Gospel singers worldwide. What a feat for an homegrown singer!
What’s special about this song? Everything seems about good with this song. When you get to a crossroad or see a roadblock, you remember that God is a Waymaker. The Israelites were surrounded by mountains at their sides, while in front was a red sea and behind were the Egyptian troops ready to overtake them. But right there, God made a pathway inside the sea. It’s such a pleasant sight to imagine.
Miracle worker: Miracles according to Merriam Webster are simply extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs. Why we say they are miracles is because just bare human reasoning can’t comprehend them. God works miracles in our lives daily. He never ceases.
God performs miracles. When science, technology, human wisdom says it’s the end, God says this is just the beginning. He heals all manners of diseases including the terminal and no-cure ones. God does all sorts of wonders. He did so much in the past, doing so much now and even more are yet to be done. God still awaits more believers to trust in His great powers to perform miracles.
Promise keeper: Lately, I told myself that I want to stop doling out promises. It seems there’s only one result time after time: I’ve always failed. One of the height of human’s frailty is in failure to keep promise. Nothing annoys more than that. Nothing breaks heart more than that. Nothing destroys relationships more. It ruins friendships. It damages mental health. You don’t want to be at the receiving end of a failed promise.
Our God, the omnipotent one, is the only one that never changes and never fails. God would rather not promise than to promise and fail. He has kept His promises from generations to generations. He’s the only reliable, dependable and trustworthy being. He’s the truest friend you can ever ask for. He is the best father or mother that there is. What a wonderful keeper of His words.
Light in the darkness: There’s a scripture that says wherever light gets to, darkness disappears. Jesus is the light of the world. Every Christian are expected to also lighten up this dark world with their godly attitudes. Our God specialises in things seems impossible. He does what others cannot do. He supercedes expectations. He is the light in every dark homes. When God speaks, the wind, seas, trees, firmaments, living, non-living things and even darkness hears.
There is a bridge that was added to this song. It’s important I point out how succinct the phrases here are. “Even when I don’t see that you’re working, you never stop working”. If you take time to digest these words, then you’d know how powerful they mean. A song writer says it’s always darkest before the dawn. That point where all you can see is “NOTHING” and it seems that God is doing not a thing, just know you’re close to your biggest victory.
God never stops working behind the scene. You don’t need to see him working. You don’t even need to know how he’s working. Only trust that He’s working. Believe that God is making a way. Hold on to His promises. Praise Him for His miracles and you’d see Him light up every dark corners of your life.
God bless you.
