“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.”
2 Corinthians 5:18 (KJV)
There is something beautiful about Christianity. God does not only save you from where you were. He sends you back with a message for others who are still there.
He forgives you and teaches you to forgive. He shows you mercy and asks you to show mercy. And when He reconciles you to Himself, He gives you a ministry: the ministry of reconciliation.
You Were Reconciled First
Before you can become a reconciler, you must understand what God has done for you.
Romans 5:10 (KJV) says:
“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son…”
That word enemies is important.
God did not wait until you became worthy of Him. While humanity was separated from Him by sin, He took the initiative. Through Christ, He dealt with what stood between you and Him.
“And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself.”
Colossians 1:20 (KJV)
The Cross is therefore the greatest picture of reconciliation. God moved toward us when we could not save ourselves.
And once you have been reconciled, He asks you to carry that same spirit into the world.
Sometimes You Have to Make the First Move
Reconciliation teaches you something difficult: the person who makes the first move is not always the person who was wrong.
God demonstrated this Himself.
That does not mean ignoring wrongdoing or abandoning healthy boundaries. Reconciliation is not pretending that nothing happened. It means refusing to make bitterness and hostility your permanent home.
Sometimes you make the call.
Sometimes you apologize.
Sometimes you forgive.
Sometimes you initiate the uncomfortable conversation.
And sometimes, you become the bridge between two people who can no longer reach each other.
Abigail did exactly that in 1 Samuel 25. David was moving toward vengeance against Nabal when Abigail intervened with wisdom and humility. David later told her:
“Blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood.”
1 Samuel 25:33 (KJV)
She did not create the conflict, but she helped stop its destruction.
Sometimes that is your ministry too.
Reconciliation Is Part of Your Worship

Jesus makes this even more personal:
“Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother…”
Matthew 5:24 (KJV)
You can pray and still carry bitterness.
You can sing and still refuse to forgive.
You can serve faithfully while avoiding someone you know you have wronged.
Christ does not separate your devotion to God from the way you treat people.
You do not have to agree with everyone. You cannot repair every relationship. But where reconciliation is possible, you should not allow pride to keep building walls that Christ wants torn down.
But There Is a Greater Reconciliation
Perhaps this has brought someone to your mind. Someone you need to call. Someone you need to forgive. Someone with whom you need to make peace.
But before you do, there is a greater question:
Have you been reconciled to God?
You can make peace with everyone around you and still remain separated from your Creator.
Sin created that separation. Christ came to remove it.
And so Scripture gives you this invitation:
“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ… we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”
2 Corinthians 5:20 (KJV)
Come to Christ. Repent of your sins and receive the forgiveness He purchased at Calvary.
Then carry that reconciliation with you.
Into your home. Into your friendships. Into your workplace. Into broken relationships.
Into a divided world.
You were reconciled so that you could become a reconciler.
That is your ministry.
That is the ministry of reconciliation.
